Employment Summary

AC Generator Consultants, Owner and Engineer – December 2006 to Present

  • Consultant to utility and industrial generator owners and to GE Energy. 
  • Conducted 3rd party surveillance for stator and rotor rewinds and new unit manufacture for large US utilities. 
  • Contracted directly with GE Energy to provide field engineering services on 2 pole stator and both 2 and 4 pole field rewinds (900 MVA to 50 MVA), new generator tooling and process improvements, and MAGIC generator testing. 

GE Product Service Engineer and Senior Service Engineer – April 2002 to December 2006 

  • Senior service engineer engaged in all aspects of worldwide generator installation and maintenance issues identified through the GE Power Answer Center.
  • Created technical solutions, fleet assessments, and ensured compliance to GE design and standard repair processes for the entire fleet of GE generators. (Also ABB, Alstom, Ansaldo, Westinghouse and Brush type generators where repairs were conducted by GE.)
  • Supervised on-site repairs and interpreted electrical/mechanical test data to evaluate suitability for service and risk analysis.
  • Lead the root cause analysis of operation, manufacturing quality and maintenance problems, wrote technical information notification letters to address fleet type service issues and authored owner manual maintenance/operation documents for all GE generator and BA product lines. 

GE Regional Generator Specialist and Generator Specialist – 1986 to 2002

  • In-house consultant to shop, factory, and field service engineering teams where difficulties in process, materials or workmanship required technical assistance with unit reliability, schedule and quality.
  • Developed HIT skid, wedge testing software, capacitance mapping, tracer gas testing new generator field coil handling tools and time saving conventional stator rewind tool kits.
  • Qualified to perform and certify GE generator specialists in EL CID, core ring test, low voltage and high voltage maintenance testing.
  • Developed and taught in-house training programs for generator specialists
  • Defined GE generator test equipment, test processes, training plans, marketing plans and service resource planning for 14 states and 40 generator specialists.

GE Factory & Field Service Engineer – 1984 to 1986

  • Primary field service support engineer for 2 MW to 270 MW, GE Lynn, MA generator manufactured equipment.  Factory design and manufacturing support (11,000 total generators).
  • Drafted field modification instructions, external technical publications (GEK’s & GEI’s).
  • Directed and provided in-house training of the international Generator Specialists.

GE Field Engineer, Mechanical and Generator Specialist – 1979 to 1984

  • Certified lead man for generator test AC and DC hipot, July 1984.
  • Rebuilt and repaired GE turbines ranging in size from feed pump turbines to the largest utility size.  Managed complete projects with contract prices to $400K.
  • Completed Generator Specialist training August 1981.
  • Completed Field Engineering Development training May 1979
